“So the Lord will make Himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the Lord. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the Lord and keep them.” Isaiah 19:21
Today’s verse was submitted by James, resident of Kansas but currently in Egypt. Below is a summary of what he is doing that he sent:
It [the organization he is a part of] is called COMET ( Centers Of Medical Excellence And Training ). Basically healthcare in Egypt is abysmal. For instance, the students here at the Hospital I’m working at now are graduates of medical school and long-story-short, they seem to have less of a grasp on healthcare than I would expect from a nurse. They seem to be pretty good on the facts, such as a couple seminars ( I attended as many as I had time for ) about some fancy-named medical conditions that I was unfamiliar with but they sounded like they were already familiar with the terms (more-so than what was just said in the lecture, from my impression). But then they seemed completely oblivious about basic, practical application stuff like putting pressure on a wound to stop the bleeding.
So COMET has been building this “American-style” residency training program with the goal of producing doctors as good as you would find in the US. And all this is to support hospitals and clinics run by Christians where the doctors, pastors, and church members can spread the word of the Bible to the patients.
